A Day At PC

A Full Day at PC

Breakfast is served!
At Purple Crayon, we serve our children a yummy nutritious breakfast everyday. They enjoy the cereal, muffins, and milk that we provide for them.

Meeting Time
Meeting time is when the children group together as one community and learn from not only their teachers, but each other. They tell their names, sing songs, go over the calendar, talk about the weather, and learn about new ideas from the theme they are studying! Children also begin to develop essential skills such as listening, paying attention, and taking turns during meeting time.

Center Time
Children love nothing more than playing, which is why they enjoy their center time. We encourage children to socialize during this time and they can choose to play in the center of their liking. Some children may prefer the music center, others may enjoy playing with table toys and manipulatives, while others gravitate towards the dramatic play area. No matter which center they choose, they are actively learning new things as they play and have fun with the purposefully selected toys in each center.

Daily Activities
There are also other large group activities that occur throughout the day which include the mini lesson, art, and story time! The mini lesson is a structured group activity that focuses on math, literacy, or scientific thinking skills. In arts and crafts, the children work on hands-on activities to explore their creativity and artistic skills while fine tuning their fine motor skills. Story time is one of the activities the children also quite fond of; they sit down, relax, and enter a world of imagination (not to mention they are developing literacy skills without even realizing).

Gross Motor Activity
It’s time to get our muscles moving! Physical movement is very paramount to a child’s development. This is the time children get to move their bodies and exercise their muscles. Studies have shown young children need to be on the move to get their brains pumping. Whether it is a walk around the neighborhood, shaking their sillies out to music, running around in our outdoor play area, or water play (in the summertime), children will enjoy moving around, being active and having fun while getting those brain gears in motion!

Lunch
At this time of the day, it is time to relax and settle down to a delicious, healthy lunch provided by The Red Rabbit Organization!

Rest Time
Now that our tummies are full, it is the best time to replenish our energy with a cozy nap.

Snack
A light snack of fruits and crackers will get our bodies ready for the afternoon ahead!

Afternoon Meeting Time
During the afternoon meeting time, we welcome our half day friends and we talk about what we have been learning throughout the month along with a review of the calendar and weather. We also use this time to talk about what is to come for the remainder of the day or introduce a new skill that will be worked on during the day.

Center Time
Time to play and explore! More active play time stimulates a child’s curiosity and makes them excited to learn about new things.

Daily Activities
This is when we may have our mini lesson, a chinese lesson, do an art and craft or have story time! The children may either listen to a story about an old lady who swallowed fly, make paintings with the colors of the rainbow, learn some useful Chinese or watch as ingredients are mixed together to make a new sensory toy for the room (playdough)!

Gross Motor Activity
Let’s get moving! Music and movement, outdoor play, and neighborhood walks allows a child to move his/her muscles and develop important motor skills.

A Day of UPK

Arrival Routine
Time to begin the school day! When the children arrive, they will hang up their
belongings, change into their school shoes, and their parents may walk them to their
classrooms.

Family Style Breakfast
Our breakfast is served family style where the children will help themselves
and each other to a healthy breakfast.

Meeting Time
Children come together as a community of learners, explorers, and friends. They
develop social and language skills by communicating to each other the plan for the
day, and responding to one another. They sing songs, recite rhymes, find out about
the weather, and explore different ideas taught throughout the month.

Center Time
Children work independently or with their classmates during center time. They
make choices about what to play, where they will explore, and how they want to
learn everyday. They read and write, color, paint, cut, build, and play pretend.
Children will learn to make plans and review what they did during center time.
This is also the time when the teachers will conduct small group activities
focusing on common core goals.

Large Group Lesson
During large group activities, the children will engage in a mini-lesson, art, and
story time! The mini lesson is a structured group activity that focuses on math,
literacy, or scientific thinking skills. In arts and crafts, the children work on
hands-on activities to explore their creativity and artistic skills while fine tuning
their fine motor skills. Story time is one of the activities the children also quite

Rest Time
Now that everyone’s tummies are full, it is the best time to take a short rest to
replenish some energy with a nap or simply resting their bodies while listening to
some soothing music.

Afternoon Center Time
Children continue to work in different learning centers and extend their play from
the morning as teachers conduct small group activities or join in with the play.

Gross Motor Activity/Outdoor Play
Children play and exercise their muscles to develop coordination, and healthy habits. It
is important for children to play outside as it reinforces healthy habits and improves
their motor skills. It also helps their brains to get into motion and build connections
more effectively.

Debrief Meeting
We will talk about all that was learned and observed during the day’s activities
and events.

Dismissal
After a long day of learning and having fun, it’s time to put on our outside shoes
and head home!
