Curriculum
Our curriculum is mainly based on the New York State Early Learning Guidelines and the Common Core Standards. We utilize these standards to create our own curriculum centered on the current children’s interests and skill level. We track each child’s progress by utilizing the Teaching Strategies Gold Development and Learning checklist to ensure our children will be ready for their next level of learning as they progress in their education.
Each month we will provide learning materials in a large group and small group setting based on themes. These themes will be used to teach skills in areas such as:

  • Problem Solving and Critical Thinking Skills
  • Math Skills
  • Scientific Thinking
  • Social Studies
  • Artistic Expression
  • Literacy
  • Dramatic Play
Teaching Approach
Every day there will be an even balance between large and small group instruction. During large group instruction, direct teacher instruction is provided. This is when the teacher will “teach” specific skills to the children. Then teachers use small group instruction to fine-tune the skills taught. Small group instruction may be on a 1 to 1 basis, or a 4 to 1 basis. Small group instruction is also used by teachers to observe a child’s interests and let the child lead as an active learner. The teacher will support the child’s current level of development and then offer support to help the child move to the next level of development.
